In 1974, after the separation of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Electrification of Agriculture at HIMEMEA - Ruse, by decision of the Academic Council, a Department of Computing Technology was created. Assoc. Professor Vasil Filipov, PhD - a teacher with extensive pedagogical and organizational experience - was chosen as its leader. A group of engineers who have just graduated from the same specialty at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute have been assigned to work as trainee assistants in the department. The department began to develop rapidly. An essential role at this stage is played by the analogous department at VMEI - Sofia.
The leadership of the department was successively entrusted to Emil Rats, Associate Professor of Computer science, Irina Zhelyazkova, Associate Professor of computer science Gitko Angelov, ch. Assistant Sima Navasardyan, Head assistant professor Stoyanka Smrikarova, Associate Professor Angel Smrikarov, PhD, Associate Professor Lidiya Georgieva, PhD and Prof. Tsvetozar Georgiev, PhD. Each of them contributes to the development of the department and leaves a mark in its history.
